On tuesday, my girlfriend took me down to London. We had a real chill day filled with coffee, tweed jackets, and the tube. Then in the evening we went to the Royal Festival Hall to see the premier of Steve Reich’s new piece, Radio Rewrite. The new piece was quite good, i enjoyed it. I like the way Reich handles dissonance in his old age! That was apparent in other works they played; 2x5 and Double Sextet. I don’t like those works as much as his others though and that’s because, although I think using a piano as a rhythmic instrument is interesting it really bores me after a while. I’m far more impressed by idiomatic piano! Other works that were played included Electric Counterpoint and Clapping music. They are both amazing pieces of minimalism which i was very pleased to see. :)
So all in all I had a great day, but then i got us on the wrong train, which is another story for another day.
